Who are we?
Mentesana University College of Science and Technologyย is a young private research and entrepreneurial university founded in 2011. We seek to attract and harness dispersed global talents, promote avant-garde research, push the boundaries of STEM in higher education, and co-create sustainable public health futures with and for society.
Vision
Our vision is to become the most attractive entrepreneurial and research university in translating theoretical concepts and medico-technoscientific research results into commercially viable and socially valuable innovative products and services for advancing public/global health.
Mission
Our mission is to create new collaborative knowledge networks that mobilize global knowledge assets to solve local and global problems by advancing investigations into science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM-based) questions.
Strategy
We seek toย attract and retain home-based, global, and African diaspora talents to build Africaโs pharmaceutical and health industry. Brain drain and the lack of skills are part of the root causes of Africaโs problems. The actions to be undertaken to conduct initial collaborative research will also measure progress based on research mobility for knowledge transfer, capacity building, and innovative research outcomes.
Usingย lean managementย approaches and dynamic capabilities, we will focus on entrepreneurship and research as our foundation. We will be at the forefront of producing original data supporting policy making. On the practical side, when necessary, we will use frugal innovations for contest-specific solutions.

Message from the Founding President
โThere is more than enough space to fill the critical socioeconomic and medico-technoscientific gap in Africaโs development and the answer to this is advanced education, research and innovation.
Natural resources are emphasized as Africaโs most important assets. That is not incorrect, but there is more. We aim to attract, retain, and protect Africaโs human capital or intellectual assets as the most game-changing resource worth fighting for, hence, the name Mentesana, taken from classic Latin โโMens sana in corpore sanoโโ.
This is interpreted as โa healthy mind in a healthy body.โย Within the African Ubuntu context (โI am because you areโ), healthy minds create value for society through collaborative scientific investigations for the whole collection of bodies or communities (healthy bodies).
Here, we privilege community prosperity over individualism. This means Africans in the diaspora and our international partners can begin to see the Motherland as a place to reimagine the revival of science and technology, industry, and entrepreneurship for societal well-being.
We acknowledge that knowledge acquisition is incomplete without character-building and visionary leadership of fully formed, educated, responsible men and women. This is the distinctive hallmark of our curriculum and research focus at Mentesana.
Additionally, the youthful, vibrant, and talented African population of 1.4 billion and counting is not a problem but an opportunity to tap into the unused and underused talents of the new generation seeking opportunities for self-sufficiency and advancements in STEM higher education and research.
We seek to create an entrepreneurial/ research university that nurtures and fosters limitless imagination and creativity for thriving African futures. Moreover, Mentesana University aims to make Ghana a hub for international research and an ideal place for international collaboration, thereby opening avenues for the African diaspora to reverse the brain drain in a world where the race for talent has become ever-fiercer. Welcome on board!โ
