New Mobile ‘Ahenson’ Programme (New MAP)
The Mentesana Mobile ‘Ahenson’ Programme (New MAP) is happy to open a new call for applications to all global African diasporans currently holding a Master’s degree, writing a master’s thesis, holding a PhD, or having considerable industrial/professional experience for a research visit lasting 1-4 weeks. Please submit a 1–2-page research agenda proposal and a 2-minute presentation regarding your planned project.
Your research visit application must focus on the following key points:
- Propose a contextually relevant solution to a problem in medico-technoscientific, agricultural, or social sciences fields.
- Propose to work on improving existing ideas or offering novel solutions for fixing a health or technological problem to enhance sustainable development.
- Clarify whether your proposal focuses on something that may be patentable, commercially viable and potentially scalable.
- Propose an idea for which you wish to conduct feasibility studies during your stay.
This is a unique opportunity for beginners and seasoned scholars, entrepreneurs, and innovators at various phases of their projects to start collaborations with local/international partners or explore possibilities for future partnerships. You will receive guidance and support in successfully managing your project and making your visit productive.
Emphasis: While we seek established, ‘big names’, we strongly encourage young, enthusiastic, and ambitious individuals with great ideas who wish to develop them further or anyone with specialist experience or expertise. Our open-door strategy is to bridge the gap between theory and practice. This privilege is also extended to individuals coming to Ghana to collect data for their projects.
Selected individuals will enjoy full immersion into Ghanaian culture and academic and sector-specific industrial experience. Through our Mentesana ‘Ahenson’ Programme, you will have the opportunity to have fun and substantial scientific and technological exchanges.
Mentesana offers visiting researchers the opportunity to enjoy Ghanaian hospitality in an excellent location. It is not far from the Kotoka International Airport and it is close to the famous Aburi Gardens and other sightseeing locations.
The main highlight and distinct feature of our Ahenson Mobility Programme is organized tours and interactive programs, which allow our guests from multidisciplinary and international backgrounds to bond, exchange ideas, and hopefully collaborate on future projects.
In the future, we will be able to cover the flight and accommodation of our guests. However, in this experimental stage, we will only provide accommodation for accepted applicants who can afford their flight tickets from anywhere in the world. Those who are fully funded by their institutions are also welcome.

Which specific group is your target?
Notably, we welcome African diaspora scholars/innovators/entrepreneurs who wish to use this opportunity to familiarize themselves with Ghana and/or Africa as a possibility for relocation. Non-Africans with a passion for the continent are also welcome to apply.
Who is given priority?
We want to emphasize that apart from the quality of one’s application, if there are two identical applicants, the one from the farthest place of residence will be considered first.
For example, suppose an applicant is from Barbados, Kenya, Namibia, Brazil, or the US; in that case, he or she will be considered before a West African who can easily visit neighbouring countries.
Can I focus on any research of my choice?
Research must focus mainly on STEM or social science, leading to medico-technoscientific advancement. It should answer questions about and offer solutions to ethical, legal, environmental, technological or social problems.
